Training Opportunities

Next Disaster Relief Training
 Middle TN Regional Training on April 7-8, 2017

The classes that will be offered are:
• Introduction to Disaster Relief (Friday night or Saturday afternoon)
• Chaplaincy (Friday night and all day Saturday)
• Ashout Recovery (Saturday afternoon)
• Blue Hat/Crew Chief (requires letter of recommendation) – (Saturday morning)
• Chainsaw Operation & Safety classroom (Saturday morning)
• Damage Assessment (Saturday morning)
• DREW – Disaster Relief Electronic Workspace (for team leaders/team secretaries) – Saturday afternoon
• Flood Recovery – (Saturday morning)
• Mass Feeding classroom – (Saturday morning)
• Operational Stress First Aid (for chaplains and team leaders) – (Saturday morning)
• Shower/Laundry – (Saturday morning or afternoon)
• Site Security – (Saturday morning)
 

 

Tennessee DR Training Facts: 

1.  All volunteers must be 18 years old to serve.

2.  All volunteers must be a member of a cooperating Tennessee Southern Baptist church.

3.  We ask that you please take specialized classroom training after you have taken the prerequisite course of “Introduction to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.”

4.  Disaster Relief credentials and the yellow hat/visor will be given after “Introduction to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief” and specialized classes have been taken.

 

Tennessee DR Training Costs: 

Because of new directives from Homeland Security, FEMA and other national agencies related to the training and screening of volunteer disaster relief workers, we have begun a cost recovery plan. The cost of a new 3 year (ID badge) credential is $36.00 (for newly trained volunteers or those that had credentials that expire in 2015). The new badge will expire in three years (2018), effective January 1, 2015.

This fee will cover not only the cost of the ID and background check but also the cost of any of the basic training courses a volunteer wants to take (except for First Aid classes and other specialized classes such as ServSafe, etc.). There will also be a new hat and a special Disaster Relief members pin given to those involved.

For recordkeeping purposes:  When taking either Introduction to Disaster Relief or Recertification – Introduction to Disaster Relief, this class date needs to coincide with the credentialing fee and the background check.  At that time, a current badge will also be issued.
